Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry Can Help You Face Your Dental Fears

Most people have some degree of anxiety when facing dental treatments, but if your fears are preventing you from seeing the dentist, there is relief available with sedation dentistry. Your oral health is too important to let nervousness stand in the way of proper dental care.

At the dental office of Raymond R. Benitez, you are in the hands of a superb sedation provider who can help you feel safe and secure during treatment. He trained in comprehensive oral sedation dentistry at the Dental Organization of Conscious Sedation to deliver experienced, quality comfort care.

Dr. Benitez is compassionate towards those with dental anxiety, which is why he takes the time to understand your fears and listen to your concerns. He can recommend sedation options based on your level of anxiety, medical history, and the type of treatment you need.

Find a Sedation Treatment Right for You

Dr. Benitez shares with you how different treatments work so that you can make an informed decision on your preferred sedation care. Here are a few of the options he can recommend:

Nitrous Oxide: Also known as laughing gas, this sedation option is inhaled through a mask placed over your nose and mouth. You feel a sense of euphoria while you remain alert and responsive during treatment. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly, allowing you to drive yourself to and from appointments safely.

Oral Sedation: Often administered in tablet-form and swallowed about an hour before your dental appointment, this medication reduces sensation and leaves you feeling groggy. You are conscious enough to answer questions and respond to those around you, but the effects of the medications are long-lasting and significant enough that you will need to make arrangements for transportation to and from appointments.

Intravenous (IV) Sedation: A quick and powerful treatment that puts you in a deep sleep, IV sedation is provided by a specialist licensed in general anesthesiology. Since it may take several hours for the sedation to wear off, it is necessary to plan for transportation with IV sedation.
